True innovations are those that not only surpass what has come before but also surprise, delight, and open minds to new possibilities. These are the characteristics shared by all 50 of the 2008 Mobile Innovation Award winners. "We evaluated hundreds of products when selecting the Mobile Innovation Award winners," said Mark Spoonauer, LAPTOP's Editor in Chief. The winners are featured in the January issue of LAPTOP, currently on newsstands, and on www.laptopmag.com/mobileinnovation. The issue also previews some of the most promising innovations on the horizon, including Nvidia's Tegra APX 2500 chip, ooVoo's high-definition video calling, Nuance's Open Voice Search, and Fujifilm's Finepix Real 3D System. For the GPS Navigation category, LAPTOP has selected Azentek's SmartMirror for the Mobile Innovation Award. The SmartMirror is the world's first rearview mirror with integrated GPS navigation, Bluetooth hands-free cellular connectivity, and backup camera capability. Released this past August, car dealerships and retailers are seeing a huge response for this product because it offers great technology features that customers want without changing the streamlined, factory, finish of the dash board. "The initial sales have far exceeded any of our expectations," said Pete Muller, Azentek's VP of Sales & Marketing. "We've had to ramp-up production at our factory just to meet the demand and consumers are currently on waiting lists just to get ahold of a SmartMirror." The Azentek SmartMirror SM-450 is priced at $799 and features GPS navigation, Samsung 400Mhz processor, 2GB SD card for storing maps, pictures, and e-books, 4.0” Touch Screen LCD monitor, Integrated speaker, Built-in Bluetooth functions including Bluetooth hands free phone, Call History log, and Auto call answering.
