Map updates - what's the secret? - 2010/03/12 11:21
Hi!
I love the SmartMirror but the documentation isn't very helpful beyond the intricacies of operating the GPS.
Assuming that there's no other documentation supplied other than Quick Start Guide that came in the box and the downloadable User Guide, there seems to be a lot left to assumption and all-out messing-around-until-you-find-it with the remaining functions, particularly the Bluetooth functions.
The most sorely lacking piece of information relates to the map updates and maybe less importantly, how to update the Navigon software if you wanted to.
I've looked at the Australia.map file and it's dated 2008 - I know we're generally 20 years behind in some areas but we have have been known to build several roads over a two year period, even in Western Australia...
The Navigon site offers PC-based software called Navigon Fresh that it recommends to use to update maps but it seems that it's applicable only to either GPS hardware with a USB port, or Windows CE boxes, typically PDAs and Mobile Phones, which also have USB ports of some description.
However the lack of a decent installation and operation manual or any hint as to how to update the maps on the SmartMirror on this site means that I don't even know if there's a USB port available on the mirror to perform the updates using the Navigon software, or if I simply copy the maps to the SD card. And if I do copy the maps over, where and how do I obtain them?
All I seem to be doing is running into dead-ends for something which one would imagine seems to be a fundamental function for maintaining a GPS device.
Postscript: I've tried the Navigon Fresh software (which will allegedly work with an SD card in a card reader as well as the USB link) and it says it can't find the software installed on the SD card, yet I can see the MN6 folder in Explorer.
