I'm sure many car PC enthusiast like myself have watched this site, with eager anticipation, for a few months now. I'm sadden by the fact that there have been very few updates especially with SEMA being a trademark event for the CPC-1000.

With such little info, I hope all this silence means final bugs are being worked and partnerships forged. However, the other extreme could suggest that the CPC is still not ready for prime time and silence is a tactic to keep the crowd from rioting.

I see Microsoft has put lots of effort into the Sync System, which means the CPC (out the door) may be flanked by more competition. Even though the Sync is exclusive to a few car makes and model, I expect it to be sold at outlets like Crutchfield as a standalone head unit within a year. After all, MS tries to dominate every market it enters.

I believe the Infil G4 (MP3car.com) now fully supports the Centrafuse frontend just like the CPC. If that's true, it may be the closest competitor to the CPC-1000. Due to the recent theft of items from my car, I do like the fact the the Infil's screen hides when it powers down and a few hundred $$ less to boot.

I also discovered a neat Linux device, the DashDAQ. It is not a standalone head unit, but is a great gadget to display, read, explore, and convert CANBUS data. It is even suppose to do vehicle navigation by Mar 08. Mounting this adjacent to your CPC or replacing dash gauges with this touch unit would be the ultimate accessory. Don't tell you wife that you want both or you will be living out your vehicle with the new toys.

I'm still holding out for the CPC, but my new Rubicon arrives mid-January.

Enough of my ramblings, just fishing for an update.

Yeah I'm also anxious to see this product become available, though I have to admit the price is a bit steep. It will be very difficult to hit the Purchase button knowing I'm dropping over 2k on this thing.

One bad thing about the G4 though that swayed me from it immediately, was that it has no support for external audio - only an internal amp. The fact that the CPC had this support made it really shine in my eyes. Only other thing I'm hoping for is getting Roadrunner to work on it (fully) as that's my front-end of choice. I don't see this being an issue but I know people were complaining about the G4 not being able to use it very well.
